Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24, 72 at Long Beach in CA. DuVernay learned to love art from the aunt Denise. Her aunt was a nurse and did night shifts to ensure that she could devote her day to theatre and literature as well as art. She introduced DuVernay the 1961 movie West Side Story and DuVernay fell in love with it. DuVernay was able to see through her mother's example how art could serve as an activist vehicle. DuVernay's mother also had social consciousness and taught DuVernay how to convey messages through art. DuVernay was raised together with her parents in Compton was a summer resident at Lowndes County Alabama in the residence of her father's parents. Her father recalled watching the Civil Rights Movement's historic march along the Edmund Pettus Bridge near the town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay's summers spent in Alabama's Selma would influence her later on to create the film about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay obtained her Saint Joseph High School diploma in Lakewood California. In the year 1990, she was a graduate of the Saint Joseph High School located in Lakewood, California. DuVernay started producing broadcast journalism when she was just a student. DuVernay began her career as an intern with CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being given an assignment to watch the residence and scrutinizing the trash from one of juries. The tasks that she had to perform left her dissatisfied and, following her decision not to pursue a career in journalism, she shifted to the field of public relations. DuVernay began her professional career as a junior assistant to publicity at a small film studio, right after graduating from the college. From this position she started her own PR company called The DuVernay Agency in 1999.
